If I had one wish......
It would be for online races of ,say, 20 laps or more, the server would
throw one yellow at random. This would still allow for strategy, but take
out "too many long and painful" yellows in the typical online short races.
This would be an option selected at race setup by the host. I think it would
add some more fun, especially since losing the draft at larger speedways
seems much more prevalent.. The yellow would only come out once, for two
laps or so. It could be thrown on any lap.

Just a thought.

Sounds like a good idea to me. It could be implemented as an option, in
addition to 'realistic' yellows.

The racelist on Sierra.com shows that the current strictly realistic
implementation of yellows is not accepted. Most races have yellows off.

Such an additional option to get the strategical component of the yellows
without the in the case of pickup and sometimes even league online racing
often excessive boredom (and extension of racetimes that may even lead to
organisational probs for some, if they are on a tighter schedule) would be
something I think could be considered for N200...3 ;-)

What I think would be even better than a locked option which throws
cautions every so many laps, would be to have a user-definable option
to throw cautions at certain points.  Even NASCAR does this in real
life sometimes when there are concerns about tire wear.  That way you
could run, say, a 100% race at Bristol and set scheduled cautions to
25% so there everyone would know in advance that there would be
scheduled cautions at laps 125, 250, and 375.  I don't see why there
couldn't be a checkbox for scheduled cautions (even in single player
races) and then a user-definable schedule done in percentage format
(so if this were implemented in single player it would be consistent
through a champ season).  If you could toggle something like this on
while still having incident-caused cautions off it would be pretty
nice for long races at the roadies.

And to expand on this, how about an option for the server boss to
throw caution flags, black flags, blue flags, red flags, and also
decide when the race will go green at start and after caution.  It
makes absolutely no sense to me, in a time when multiplayer is clearly
where games are headed, especially with the growth of leagues and
structured competition, that the game does not have these very
elementary features.

For one, the server 'boss' might not be racing - the server could be running
unattended.  Also, even if the bos IS racing, he might not be aware of blu/blag
flag situations.  I'd agree about going back green after the caution, but the
human element means something could be done unfairly...
"Hey, we're all ready to go!  It's not OUR fault you're a lap down, so didn't
get to the pits in time..."
