F1RS not detecting 3dfx???

by Me » Thu, 20 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Im cant install the 3dfx version of f1rs. It lets me select d3d, but
obviously that version blows. If i copy all the necessesary files over, i
can run the 3dfx version. Im running 233mmx, orchid righteous, 3d blaster
pci, win98. I had this trouble on 95 i think too, ive only had 98 installed
for a bit (only installed it cos i got a new h/d). Is this a '98 problem or
what? any info would be appreciated

This is probably the number #1 question on the UbiSoft FAQ page for this game.
There are 2 files missing from your \windows\system directory.   You can find
out their names and even download the missing files from their website.  You can
also get the v1.09 patch while you are there - sounds like you will need that
too.

Oh no! not this old chestnut AGAIN?      8-(

To make sure that when you installed the game it recognised your 3Dfx
card, when the game starts ensure that it runs the f1voo.exe file and
no other file?

Sometimes f1rs can move two important files during the istall process,
and this means it cannot *see* your 3Dfx card? check your
windows/system directory for Glide.dll & sst1init.dll. If they are
there then fine, if they are not, copy them from your original f1rs cd
to the windows/system directory and f1rs will now be able to see your
3Dfx card ok.

Also make sure the UBI.INI file in your \windows\ubisoft directory is
set to "3dfx=1" to get the 3Dfx version running.
