Auto-Detecting my 3DFX card??

by A. Markham *Kart44 » Sat, 12 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hello,
I have two games that "auto-detect" my 12MB Diamond Monster 3DII
card. They are: Colin McRae Rally Demo and Interstate 76 Nitro Pack. For
some reason those two games will not detect my 3DFX card. I have dozens
of other games that work just fine but those two are the problems. I
have the latest drivers for my card, the games, and Direct X 6. Any
ideas??
Thanks,
Aaron Markham *Kart44*

Um... I think he's already answered your question.

He said that the games auto detect his Monster 3D2, but not his 3Dfx
card, which I assume is a Voodoo?

The Monster3D2 IS a 3DFX card. It uses the Voodoo2 chipset.

Ahh. I must apologise. I haven't been keeping up with the latest 3D
cards for a while now.

Um..my NG server had not delivered his message prior to my post.  In fact, I
keep getting these old posts from April and May scattered throughout the current
stuff.  Very annoying.

PS...Isn't The Excelsior a fancy hotel someplace?

It's a long shot, but have you enabled the option that makes DirectX
disregard the MII as a valid DirectX Multimedia device?

In this configuration, 3dfx only games will still find the card.
However, DirectX games will not.

-Larry

It's under the 'Advanced' tab with Diamonds Monster II.

Um... have you tried selecting an option where you can control how
long your news reader keeps messages for?

I delete them manually every couple of days.  How long they are kept is not
the issue.  I am speaking of messages that come in amongst the latest batch, but
with very old dates.  I see headers from threads that died months ago.  It is
most disconcerting!

for I76 Nitro, make a new shortcut, and use a cmd line like this:
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Interstate '76 Nitro Pak\i76nitro.exe -glide"
