does your 2d card matter when you get a 3dfx card?

i'm planning on getting a 3dfx in the very near future and now i was
wondering if my original video card (trio64v+) has any influence on the
speed at which the 3dfx games will run. I know there are better 2d cards
around.

and since the new voodoo2 chipset will also be available pretty soon, is it
wise to wait a liitle bit longer and get a card which has that chipset on
it?

No, it has no effect whatsoever.

If you can stand the wait (2-3 months maybe), definitely go for Voodoo2.
