3D cards???

by Martin Wigginto » Fri, 18 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I'm thinking of picking up a 3D card for a P133 (PCI) that supports
Rendition sims like Cart Racing (by Sierra). Right now I'm considering
picking up a Sierra Screamin' 3D card but does anyone have any
suggestions?

I haven't been able to find that card you're talking about.

DO NOT get the Diamond Stealth 2 s220 (v2100), I bought it last week and
could not get it to work on the Rendition version of ICR2.

So I returned it for something else.  I decided to try one with the v2200
chipset like the Thriller 3d.  See if that one works with the ICR2-3d.  If
not, I gotta find one with v1000 chipset.

Martin,

There is a patch to make ICR2 Rendition work with the V2X00 chips.
Krisstian says nothing about trying this patch and not getting it to work.
As for finding the patch, there are some posts about this issue right now.

The MOST foolproof patch I've seen yet is on the Simproject's IRL site:

Enjoy!

I personally think the Diamond Stealth2 S220 would be a fine choice.
I'm thinking of getting one for SODA, but thats another story.

Jason.

Don't listen to the anti-Rendition faction- you can get a Rendition 2d/3d
card for half the price of a 3d only V2, and for CART, NASCAR2, GPL, and any
D3D(non glide-native) application, the image quality will blow a Voodoo
away, and you'll get comparable frame rates. 3Dfx cards run a lot of frames,
but don't look very good doing it in Direct3D.

Jason, I tried the patch, but it didn't work.  I even emailed one of the
guys responsible for the patch,  I included the files I was using &
described everything I was doing, and he did not find nothing wrong.

From my experience I would say  the patch needs tweaking in order to work
with the Stealth 2 s220.

From my experience I would say  the patch needs tweaking in order to work

would start, well, sort of.  The could hear the intro, but all i saw was
colored static at the top of the screen.

True, Matthias- but my impression was he was mainly interested in Papyrus
sims, and for those I think Rendition is the better card. I agree with you
on the widespread support for 3Dfx, that's why I'm shopping for one to sit
next to my Rendition card now.. 8^)
