Porting GP2 to a 3D card ???

by Carlos Miguel Cordei » Sat, 25 Nov 1995 04:00:00

The recent revolution in the games market is the appearence of 3D
acelerator boards for the PC. Almost all game software editors have
announced cooperation with some 3D board manufacter (to name some of
the important: Acclaim, Accolade, Bullfrog, ID software, Gremlin,
Looking Glass, Lucas Arts, Microsoft, Papyrus, etc.). They all seem to
support 3D blaster from Creative Labs or Edge 3D from Diamond. Some
titles have already been ported: Nascar Racing, Fligth Unlimited,
Magic Carpet, etc.

QUESTIONS :  Has SH-Microprose have announced suport for any of this
boards ?  Do they have intention to port GP2 to take advantage of the
3D aceleration ?

If they have problems with the SVGA mode in GP2 not being able to run
on the fastest Pentiums they should start thinking on it.  3D Blaster
is the most supported card and the PCI version (that will dispense the
need of a standard SVGA card) is only some months away and will only
cost 349$ (the VL BUS is already on the market). Anyway, the game
seems to be so much behind schedule (I hope not too much) that when it
is released the boards should be (or almost) in the market.

With those cards we would play GP2 smoothely with resolutions starting
at 640X480 in 65536 colours. Imagine playing it at 1024X768 !!!

Here is one interesting address to look at the 3D boards situation:

If someone has info please post !

Bye for now.
