Well I asked for it and I got it.
Absolutely incredible feel to this game....gawd, I don't know where I've
been...playing all of Papy's Nascar sims and missing out on probably the
best physics engine out there. The incredible experience went like this:

Installed GPL to default settings and system crash right at start.
My V5-5500 agp screams at me for using the bundled old 3dfx driver.
Rebooted, went to Papy site and downloaded updates (Direct3D7 and 1.7GHz +
cpu fix)
Installed cpu fix only and stablized GPL but only at 640x480.
Installed Direct3D7.
Rebooted, and while starting up I'm asking myself "what the he** is so great
about this game?"

....and then ..it happened...the magic...the graphics...THE FEEL!

I'm running 1152 x 864 with ALL graphic settings cranked to full...and does
it look and feel good.
I'm hooked...what more can say?

Actually saw some poster-sized prints matching some of my GPL program covers
for sale down at Petit LeMans this past weekend.  Got a chuckle out of that,
as well as a big photo of Denny Hulme from the Nurburgring in '67.  He was
flying over Flugplatz, the BT24 about a foot off the ground, one hand on the
wheel with the other straight up in the air like he was riding a roller
coaster.  Showoff.... ;-)

Even more self promotion: head over to gplrank and register your
driver, it will allow you to track your progress nicely over time as
you get faster.

The V5 is probably the most misunderstood and quite comparable visually to
just about anything current on the market today.
Many do not realize the 3rd party XP drivers available to these cards now.
And the Amigamerlin group is still making them!
The 4x FSAA looks just as good as an ATI Radeon 9700 pro minus a few fps.
The only drawback to the V5 is that it doesn't support a T&L engine.
Unfortunate for Voodoo users left in the wake of 3dfx' demise.
I'm running my V5 on a P4 motherboard which supports 3.3v signalling.
Combine that with a 2.6Ghz cpu and you have a very respectable Voodoo5
happening.
GPL looks excellent as does N4. No complaints here. :-)
