Thunderbird or Pentium-4 best for GPL?

by keit » Fri, 20 Apr 2001 11:55:22

Does anyone have a comparison of the Pentium 4 and Thunderbird running GPL?

About to upgrade my rig to a 1.4GHz Tbird or P-4. Supposedly the P-4 1.4GHz is
coming way down in price when the P-4 1.7GHz is announced.

both amd & intel announced large price drops a couple days ago, the
athlon 1.33g dropped over $100 to just $260.  There's no particular reason
to buy intel any more, unless you need a dual cpu system.

I was wrong, its even cheaper, $210 for athlon-1.33g.

$70 less than p4-1.4g and faster to boot, no wonder intel's profits are
slumping :)

I would think either one would be more than enuff for GPL. I run it on a 950
AMD K7 with 256 meg of ram and a Geforce2 GTS 64 meg card and hold a steady
36fps at 1280 x 1024 res using the d3d patch.

If WSC has the GPL cars in it I won't be driving GPL much anymore.  My
point?  WSC is being optimised for SSE2, that is only found on the Pentium
4.

wsc is 6months away, a gpl car-pack prolly another 4months on top of that.
Your P4 system might as well include a $500 geforce3 for those hot games
that are coming out...well, next year sometime :)
