Framerate problems?... PDPI L4 - SPECIAL PRICE FOR GPL'ers

by doktor » Thu, 22 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I told you a few weeks ago that I was working on a deal with PDPI...

Today, I am pleased to announce that DoktorB's GPL Page is the exclusive
site for PDPI's Lightning 4 (L4) at a reduced price for us GPL'ers.

Go to my page ( http://www.racesimcentral.net/~drbryan/gpl ) to obtain the
special PASSWORDS necessary in order to purchase the PDPI L4 at a
*fantastic* price. (using a SECURE Online ordering form).
        a.. L4 w/ 1 & 2 channels - ONLY $80.95
        b.. L4 w/ 3 & 4 channel adapter - ONLY $90.95
(shipping: $4 for continental N. America, $15 International)
    (Prices in US dollars)
Currently, PDPI is offering the L4 on their page for $99.95 for the 1 & 2
channel model, and $109.95 for the L4 w/ adapter.

Again, this special price is available only if you use the passwords on my
page, and then enter the "Special Order" section on their web page.

I have put up a special PDPI page on my site, with info on the L4, including
links to two reviews (CombatSim & Gamesdomain). PDPI has just released a new
driver (v 1.41), so any previous hardware problems should now be resolved.

What's more, there is a new utility called "Virtual Stick", that enables you
to create "virtual" controllers, using any of the existing controllers
plugged into the L4 (up to 8 controllers if you have 2 cards linked
together!). Virtual Stick will allow you to map any controls or keystrokes
to any of the available controllers (perfect for throttle, rudders, or
keyboard commands)

Put simply, here's why the PDPI L4 will improve your GPL (or other game's)
framerates:
"The PDPI Lightning 4 is a DIGITAL gamecard. The standard PC gameport that
comes with your computer is an analog gameport. The way the old analog
technology, the computer has to keep "polling", or checking to see if you
have moved your stick/wheel, instead of doing what we want it to do - put
all its resources towards processing the graphics and gameplay. The PDPI L4
assumes the responsibility of joystick polling on its own hardware, freeing
the CPU to get on with other tasks."

Features:

a.. Accelerates Any Conventional Analog Game Controller
b.. Is Dynamite Fast (assumes the full responsibility of joystick
polling on-board, allowing the host PC more CPU time for game executio. ie:
faster framerates)
    c.. Is Ultra-Smooth (reduces "Jitters")
d.. Is Downward Compatible (runs all PC games, including older DOS
games)
e.. Is Internet Stable (even results in a fewer disconnects)
f.. Includes PDPI's "Virtual Stick" utility
g.. L4 w. 3/4 channels allows up to 4 controllers to be plugged in at
once
    h.. 5 year manufacturer waranty
Whilst some of the newer soundcards are coming out with digital ports, none
can match the L4 for smoothness and speed. And at this price, I don't think
you can go wrong.

So head over to my page, read the reviews, and I think you'll see that the
PDPI L4 is a great solution to your GPL "jitters" and framerate problems.

.. at this price, they won't last long!

(sorry about the SPAM.. but it IS relevant to the group,
as I put this deal together for my fellow GPL'ers)

Actually, it is an ISA card...
Finally found a use for that empty slot!
