Optimizing GPL & PDPI L4 Performance

I just replaced a CH GameCard III with a PDPI L4 game port; I'm using
the PDPI "L4 Thrustmaster T1/T2 With Adapter" joystick driver.

I was able to successfully confiqure/calibrate my Extreme Competition
Controls CDS steering wheel/pedals (250 ohm pots) with adapter using the
GPL "Generic" driver; but I cannot calibrate or assign controls when
using the "DirectInput" driver.  Is this normal?  Previously with the CH
GameCard I could calibrate either the "Generic" or "DirectInput" drivers
with "DirectInput" providing better performance.

Car control has definitely improved with the PDPI card, in one evening I
dropped my best lap times by at least 1/2 a second at Monza, Mosport and
Watkins Glen.  However when the car is stopped I can still see slight
jittering of the front tires; I was expecting/hoping for absolutely no
jitter.

Can anyone tell me if I have configured my PDPI card/steering wheel for
optimal GPL performance?  Will changing the my wheel/pedal's 250 ohm
pots for a standard 100 ohm pots provide any improvement?

I have the PDPI card and an early Extreme setup with the 250K ohm pots.  I
could not get a decent calibration under Direct Input.  Because of that I
couldn't get a good calibration in GPL using Direct Input.  I purchased 100K
ohm pots from Extreme and the performance of the PDPI in Direct Input is
great now.  GPL is calibrating rock solid using Direct Input and I am quite
pleased.
