If I remember correctly there is no PC speaker option. Considering it
costs about $1500+ for a machine capable of running this game at a
decent speed and you can get a Soundblaster for <$60 AND no serious
gamer would spend the above amount and not get a sound card I don't
find it too surprising. If they spent one day on PC Speaker sound it
probably wouldn't be made up in sales to people without soundcards.
Now I will admit that without sound a driving game of this nature is
going to be difficult, changing gears will be a nightmare, but if you're
gonna spend hours learning to play and you must have spent at least $40
on the game then a bit more for a soundcard that will enhance all of your
games can't be too much of an extra burden.
On a technical level, I think they used the Miles design drivers and I
don't know if these support PC Speaker or not. If not adding PC Speaker may
mean more work than supporting all the other sound cards combined.
