Still get crappy engine sounds in ICR

I'm having a bit of trouble with the sound in ICR. I  use
an Orchid Gamewave, so I can have Soundblaster for the  effects
and  GM  for the music. The music sounds fine, but in  a  race,
the  sound  is  really weedy, particularly  the  engine  sound,
which is really high pitched, it sounds awful. Someone  replied
to  a  message  I posted in the flight sim  group  (thanks  for
answering), suggesting I choose SB for the music as well,  'cos
I  was  getting some GM notes being used in the race.  I  tried
this  (and a couple of other combinations too), but  it  didn't
  seem to make any difference.
It  could  be that I'm getting GM sounds  coming  through
because   my card supports both standards, though I  can't  see
  this being very likely.
If  anyone else has experienced this problem  before,  or
knows  if  there  is a patch to fix it, could they  drop  me  a
line, as I'd really appreciate it.

                        Thanks,
                                Scott.

Unfortunately, the only advice I have, is my own guideline in reguards to
sound cards. Get a soundblaster. They are 100% soundblaster compatable :-)

Same advice unfortunately...Get a soundblaster. They are 100% soundblaster
compatable.

I don't know if this will help but .. turn-off the music in
the option menu of the game, only leaving the SB for engine
noise. Maybe the sound quality will improve. I have
a similar pb with a logitech soundman wave card.
The engine noise disappears (leaving only the crash noises)
if I have both sound and GM music on. Anybody with a
SMW 32  has the same problem ?

I've got an AWE 32 and I just get a pathetic whine from the engine.
Maybe that's the actual sound - has anyone got anything better out of the
game than that ?  When I played the NASCAR demo, the engine sound was
awesome - is it really like that in Indy ?

This is almost for sure due to have GM for music....the engine sound is
really not a digital effect, thus it's an FM Synthesized sound when
running a SB compatible. When GM is used, you get a musical note instead
of an engine-like sound.

I just bought the AWE myself a couple of days ago. I used to have a
crappy old 8-bit SB v1.5 and the engine sounds were BETTER with the
old card!!! Set the chorus and reverb values to zero. It helps a little.
Crash sounds are better with AWE, though :-)

I noticed the same thing - my old 8-bit blaster was much richer in the
engine drone sounds. Crash sounds improved a lot, though - maybe mostly
because i have a subwoofer hooked up, too. AWE32 is totally compatible,
though.
