Well, with my recent acquisition of ICR, I've been upgrading the 'ol PC
to further support my racing career.  At the advice of many, I picked
up a joystick.  But, when playing ICR I can not make any menu
selections.  Yeah, the joystick is calibrated, etc.  But I can not make
menu selections either through the keyboard or through the joystick.  I
do not have a sound card but am using the game port on my I/O card.
The stick will work fine in Flight Sim & other games just fine.  I
called Papyrus and they acknowledged that this problem has happened in
the past and is due to some HW conflict.

What gives?  If I disable my game port, then I can play the game
through the keyboard.  W/ the port enabled, I can hit return to
eventually get into practice mode.  At which time the stick will allow
me to steer & accelerate (so it kinda works).

Anyway, I'm going today to buy a Soundblaster card today, but I wanted
to make sure this would solve my problem.  Does anyone have any info.
on this problem?  I'm looking at getting the cheapie Soundblaster
card...what are the pros & cons of this...or should I opt. for one of
the other models (regarding the CD scene, I'll pick up a quad speed
drive in a few months).

Thanks...

Tim

I had a similar problem (I think).  I could use the joystick to select
menu options and to play the game, but I couldn't redefine the joystick from
the 'Set Controls' menu!  So I ultimately called Papyrus Tech Support, and the
guy I talked to sent me a copy of the CONTROLS.CFG file set up the way I wanted
it, via modem.
I'm not clear, are you disabling the joystick port that's not being used?
I think that's the conflict Papyrus might have been talking about.  Either way,
you might want to disable joystick input during menu selections; this can
be done by pressing the 'j' key at any menu screen.  This is a toggle that
is recorded in the CFG file, so you don't need to do it every time you start
up.

Thanks for the info. AJ, but the problem was resolved when I picked up
a sound card.  It appears the control problem was w/ my I/O card.

I'm styl'n now!
