Indeed!! Especially important for the long straight. Don't mind the speed
going into or through the righthander before it too much, focus on taking
the turn with a line that allows for a high exit speed.

Never did that, and that's including my 8:04. Then again, I only race online
races, going for the finish first and for all (though you wouldn't always
tell, lol). For hotlapping it would be ok I guess.

   Howdy,
I recently ran a 5 lap race online and tried to take it easy where i
usually lose it, and of course pushed as hard as I could where I was
comfortable and made 3 mid 8:20's (:24, :26, :27). I tried so hard to
complete the effort I lost it on lap 5. lol.  My PB in an Eagle is 8:15,
which is pretty much a wall for me. Ive backed it up w. 8:16's and 8:17's
but pushing hard and not spinning in GPL isnt really my forte. The Ring is
the first track I started work on when GPL came out 3 or so years ago.
Probably be faster if I stuck w. a Lotus but I prefer a wider power band.
Good luck!

Don Scurlock ... I recognize that name.  Oh I remember now.  You're the
canuck that's 0.6s away from me resuming my top 30 canadian rank in
GPL.  FYI, I just finished school yesterday (for good!!) and my first
mission is to reduce my handicap by 0.61s :-)  Consider the glove to be
thrown fellow canadian sim racer ;-)

Regards,
Leo (AKA Auslander)

Hi Eldred,

I'm not the best-qualifed person to comment on Nurburgring technique :0) but
I downloaded your replay anyway and watched it versus my PB (8:24) using GPL
SpyGirl (that thing that puts both cars on the same replay). I use the
Ferrari too, although I use R Hodgson's setup from Lightsout Racing and it
seems we have quite different gearing. For what it's worth, this is what I
scribbled down:

From the start, we swapped the lead a lot but then we were dead level at
Flugplatz.
You lost some time through Adenauer Forst and Metzgesfeld.
You lost quite a bit up the long hill (4 or 5 left-handers) in
Bergwerk/Kesselchen.
Your Klostertal and Karussell seemed faster than mine.

Couldn't tell much post-Karussell cos it's so twisty and hard to see if
one's gaining on the other.

On Dottinger Hohe (the long straight at the end) we had exactly the same
speeds at the start, at the jump, and at the end, so I guess we were matched
all the way.

So I figure the hill in Bergwerk is the most critical bit - I got my first
sub-8:30 time immediately after spending an hour practising this hill over
and over (using the "ringtrainer" program).

As I said, I'm definitely no Maxx so you'll probably want to read a few more
verdicts on this :0)

Good luck

http://www.joachimblum.de/ringtrainer.htm - definitely worth a look.

I use the line...
stall_0 = 19400.00 0.00
...in my nurburgring track.ini to save that 9-minute warmup lap every time
:0)

Yep, I already have it.  It helped me get under 9:00, but it hasn't seemed to
help since then... :(

Err.. if you turn off that autoshift, you GPLRank will drop rapidly in
no-time. Autoshift in GPL is baaaaad!!!!

Shit! That's it, your on my Buddy List now (bit of a misnomer isn't it? It's
really a list of the people I most want to beat) Now where am I going to find
8/100ths of a second? Thanks for the motivation Leo, I'm always looking for
more.

I know, I know ... Autoshift is taboo, but this is the ring we're talking
about here!  I shift manually everywhere else, but it's still not a 'right
brain' thing for me so I sortakinda just memorize shift points/patterns.  I'm
thinking that's gonna mighty fun at the ring :-)

No problem man ... we all need new 'rabbit' now and again :-)
