CART: what do you recommend

Urmh... Papy's Cart Racing aka ICR2? You can find it in bargain
bins everywhere (Popular Bookstore even has it for abt
S$15...the 3D enhanced version somemore...) Then install the
CART2000 shapes that u can find at www.simracing.com and you're
set! Won't work with digital wheels tho :-( Another possibility
is GP2 with the CART shapes... then can race CART ard Sepang!

CART: what do you recommend

I just reloaded Cart Racing on my PII400 with a SB Live and a LWFF wheel. It
runs great and although it looks every bit it's age, CART Racing is still a
lot of fun. I got it off the Sierra site for US$ 9.95.

The choices are very slim.  You have CART RAcing by Sierra. or Cart
Precision Racing by Microsoft.  CPR is several years newer and has a few
interesting ideas, but the whole package seemed to be judged a failure.
Cart racing is Indy Car Racing 2 that has been repackaged.  Even tho
it is pratically out of print, you can still get it via mail order at
Sierra's web site.  Cart Racing is probably the better "Sim", but it has
many glaring weaknesses such as dos soundcard requirements or a special
3d card that leave many users unable to properly run the sim in a modern
Win9x machine.
If you know how to setup a soundcard for certain IRQ's and are
comfortable with 640x480 jaggy graphics, then CART racing is the one.

you can dowload a patch (the Pits have it in their archives and the Sim
Project too) which enables you to play in win95/8 I have just reinstalled
after reading stuff about the new shapes and am loving it again!

If you have a second computer, get ICR2 (CART Racing) from Payrus, buy
Rendition video card for around $40, and install the Rendition version of
the game.  Go to the Pits website for links to utilities and track
enhancements.

Without a Rendition card, CART Racing is 640x480 unaccelerated graphics,
around 6 years old. Fun to drive, but it won't look very good.

You could buy Dave Noonan's track converter, though, and race the tracks on
GPL ... I wonder if anyone has come up with a way to modify the GPL handling
and carshapes to produce a reasonable facsimile of modern CART?

Otherwise, you can get the sim "by that buggy software company" with cheezy
but Voodoo-compatible graphics, although it sux the big one regarding AI and
drivablilty. I bought it with great e***ment, tried it twice; waited for
the patch, tried it twice more then uninstalled it. Yuck!!

If CPR had online racing I would probably still be playing it.  The
driving model and sense of speed was pretty decent, it was just the AI
that was a waste of space.

No person's opinions can be said to be

Well it does at the zone and its free.  I spent many a night racing there.
I am not sure if anyone still races there with CPR, but they did.
