I'd turn off clouds (or sky, whatever it was). I have a 200 MMX and had a
Mystique 4Mb and was getting over 25 fps. Iset the asphalt texture to drop out
below 25 fps and it did drop out occasionally, around the grandstands with
other cars about. You could reduce the number of cars drawn ahead or behind. I
think I was using the default settings for the opponent cars drawn.
Since I play alot of N2 and ICR2 i went and got a rendition card. They are
pretty cheap at the moment. The difference for me is not just frame rate, since
I think the game tops out at 30 fps anyway, but the graphics are much nicer
with a lovely, hazy distance effect. Icr2 rendition is 10 times as good to
look at as the normal version, with skies, full detail mirrors, realistic
textures and 30 fps 98% of the time. It will go faster than 30 fps but
time speeds up time when doing that (didn't einstein say that would happen?)
which is why I think the game tops out at 30 fps. It's a shame because the
game a bit smooth at 70 fps but the car is undriveable!
Anyway, sorry to digress. Remember to turn off the clouds, you don't need 'em.
