Anyone using a 200MMX for Nascar2, GP2I? How does it run? Any
problems? Worth upgrading from a 166 non MMX?

Thanks
David

David,  I have a Dell P200 and a good friend just got a Dell MMX-P200.
Mine has a 2mb Virge 3-D video card, while his is a 4mb 3-D EDO ram video.
We both run Nascar 2 as well as MS Flight Sim 6.0.  I have tested the frame
rate between the systems with *identical* set-ups in each sim and his will
run about 2-3 frames higher than mine is both sims.  When we're talking
about comparing 24 frames per second to 26 or 27, it's definetly NOT worth
the upgrade!  When (or if) the sim designers write the code to take full
advantage of the MMX processor, then it will show great improvements.  BTW,
most P166's are about 7% slower than a P200.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I was running GP2 on my 200 MMX (however with my children the CD
unfortunately lasted no longer than a couple of weeks - trying to go
through Microprose to get a replacement).  It ran really well with full
graphics and sound and no apparent jumping in the video.  Apparently
UBISOFT's POD is supposed to run well on the MMX too, but I can't get past
a black screen.
In terms of what influence the MMX has on running GP2, it is also supported
by 32 RAM, 512 cache and a 4M STB velocity 3D card.
Unfortunately I can't compare relative performance to you're 166.  I have
only just upgraded from an AMSTRAD 1640 EGA steam driven dinasour!!

Regards,
Thomo.
