Well spotted!
Hitting the 'finish session' button does give poor results, but watching
(via ctrl-t) gives near perfect times.
You say the range 23-27 is not bad, but at Monza this year the range was
22.2-27.5. I would say that 23-27 was pretty acceptable wouldn't you?
As far as the qualifying comments are concerned, of course you can watch the
other cars as they are running. Just press + or - on the keypad to switch
from car to car.  Pressing 'home' 'pg up' also switches views on the other
cars, so you can watch from the front wing, the side of the***pit,
external to see the times, etc. what more do you want?

Sorry, I thought from your post that you were mainly concerned about not
knowing who was on the track during qualifying, and not being able to ride
with the other drivers to see what sort of times they were getting.  Both of
which you can do.
