3DFX Voodoo with racing sims?

by William Dahm » Wed, 04 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I just checked the 3DFX Voodoo page to see what games are listed.  GP2,
ICR2, and Nascar2 were all NOT on the list.  Does this mean this card
won't enhance these games at all, or that it wouldn't enhance these
games as much as if they were programed for 3DFX?  Is it because these
are all DOS games and 3DFX works in Windows?  Anaybody who knows please
answer.

A Voodoo card will do nothing for these titles (in fact it will not
even be used).  The Voodoo cards work just fine in DOS, but like the
Rendition cards, require direct ports.  Currently ICR2 and Nascar2 are
Rendition Ready (GP2 is not).

Here's the text of an Email to Orchid:

The games you currently have are probably not ported to use the Voodoo
chip yet..I would contact the software manufacture when upgrades will
be
availible..

here some guidelines:

Windows Direct 3D Drivers
*Windows 95 3D programs use Microsoft's Direct X Direct 3D API Full
Screen drivers.

*If a software program has Direct X Direct 3D API driver support it
should work with the Righteous 3D.

DOS Glide Drivers
*DOS 3D programs that have Glide support should work with the
Righteous
3D card.

*Support for Glide software is built into the Righteous 3D.

*Glide for the Righteous 3D is like VESA to 2D or 2D/3D video cards.

*Not all DOS programs will run successfully under Windows 95.  (Check
with the software manufacturer).

*All 3D programs used with the Righteous 3D board will be played in a
full DOS screen.  The Microsoft DirectX 3D v.II drivers will not allow
a
3D card to play in a Window.

hope this helps

Thank you for your continued interest in Orchid Technology.

In my opinion, we're all SOL with racing and Voodoo....
