3DFX (Voodoo) with TV OUT?

by John Burrow » Tue, 16 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Maybe someone in this newsgroup knows...

I want to get a card with TV OUT (maybe ATI's PC2TV 2D/3D one) and put
a 3DFX card alongside it. What I'd like to know is:

Will there be some way that I can route 3DFX games out to the TV?

Or am I only going to view games coded for ATI's (Rage?) or MS's
Direct 3D on the TV

Is there a card that has both TV OUT; 2D; and the 3DFX chipset?

Lastly:

ATI's PC2TV card goes up to 640 by 480 and (I guess) better than 256
colors. Has anyone got one? Does it look good? great?

Any help is appreciated,

Yes, the new Intergraph Voodoo Rush card.  It's a 6meg 2D/3D board with TV
outputs with a suggested retail price of around $230.  It ships with the
full versions of MotoRacer, Turok: Dinosour Hunter, and Janes' Longbow FX.

No, it uses the 3Dfx Voodoo Rush chipset.  The only V2000 series cards so
far are the Hercules Thriller3D (V2200) and the newly announced Diamond
StealthII (V2100).

Does the Intense 3D Voodoo support Rendition (2000)?  I can't seem to find
that info anywhere!!!

I'm not sure if this is VooDoo or not, but the STB Velocity 128 has not
only a composite video out (RCA jack), but also a S-VHS video out too.  I
think it was 4 MB and about $198 at CompUSA.

Anybody know anything about this board?  I think it also included
Moto-Racer and LongBow and several others.

I read the box, but it didn't really say what it was compatible with, ie
3Dfx, Rendition, or whatever else.

Does it come with Longbow? I don't think it does - it would mean
having a D3D version on longbow - which AFAIK there isn't one.

Its only compatible with D3D & OPENGL (of sorts - only in NT at
present - no W95, and not too impressive under NT)

It has a lot of potential though, especially the AGP version which
really is quick. I'm not sure the PCI version is worth it as a
surrogate 3Dfx, but the AGP version looks pretty cool.

Currently AGP really isn't any faster than PCI.  PCI went through a couple
revisions, and AGP should be no different.  For now, I wouldn't go out and
buy a new MB/Video card just to get it.

It uses the NVidia RIVA 128 chip and is not compatible with Voodoo titles.
It does do Direct3D and OpenGL (currently NT and in beta for 95) quite well
and it's performance scales with processor speed (it faster than the Voodoos
on high end P2 machines).

All in all it's not a bad board.  Is it a Voodoo killer, probably not.
Still, for the money it's a viable solution for some.

Check out Toms site for his AGP review. The AGP looks pretty nice on
the Riva 128. Can the PCI version get over 60fps on PCP D3D? I didn't
think it could.

After saying that I tend to agree with you about getting a board to
support it at present. I never like to be an early adopter - it is
safer that way.
