Can GP2 use VESA 2.0?

by Markus Strob » Thu, 19 Sep 1996 04:00:00

My Videocard (ATI Mach 64) supports vesa 1.2 in it's PROM. I have a TSR
that makes it support vesa 2.0. With the TSR games like Duke 3rd run
about
20% faster. But GP2 runs exactly the same. Does anyone know if GP2 can
be
made to run vesa2.0? Ie is there a command line switch, or a setup
utility
or something? GP2 is supposed to be 'leading edge', surely it supports
Vesa 2.0?????

This is the same situation with just about all the cards that have come out
in the past year and a half.

Unfortunately no. Its video code needs to be redone. It's 16-bit banked VGA
code which is a leftover from GP so it seems. I could be wrong.

Leading edge!!???! Well, its 3D-graphics and car physics algorithms might
be. But its video coding is not. Hopefully, this will change with the an
update.

Unfortunately, leading edge means 'leading edge of not releasing a
game on time'. It appears that Mr. Crammond has missed out these (are
they features?) things that are important to the players. Network
support, for one.
