VESA VBE & GP2

hi !

I was looking for an alternative (free !) to Scitech's UniVBE last night,
.. found one that supports S3 chipsets only - S3 VBE/Core 2.0 ver 3.02
by Dietmar Meschede. (http://www.racesimcentral.net/~mesched/)
I then tested it with GP2 ... the only difference reported by gp2log.txt
is in this line :

Found Vesa Version:00000102h ----> Found Vesa Version:00000200h

Anybody know what that means ?

My video speed is still at 239 (STB Trio 64v+ PCI 2 mb DRAM)... no change.

Should I get UniVBE 5.2 instead ? What kind of improvement should I be
expecting in GP2 ?

regards,
hisham.

 Hisham.....Sorry to tell you but UniVBE 5.2 does'nt work with GP2 !
I have both of them . I'm running a Pentium Overdrive 83mhz
/12meg/1meg vid. S3VBE gave me 3 more fps. Now I'm at 19.3  fps in
(sad) VGA. Runs pretty fast . UniVBe works real well with ICR2 , but
not Nascar!

Hi,

this line tells you the Vesa Version No. of your Video Card. The "Hardware Vesa Version"
(means: included on your VidCard) in your case is V 1.02 and after running the Vesa Driver, it is
upgraded to V 2.0 ... which should be faster, but I have not tested it myself yet.

NB: You can also check for your Vesa Version with the DOS Prog <MSD>.

Have a nice day,
Goran

yes, they are VBE versions... 1.2 being old (always reported as 102h),
and 2.0 being the newer version that has LFB 32bit etc..

: Thats not true I have SDD5.2 and it works just fine for me.
he meant it doesnt speed anything up... which depending on your video
card, might be true.

: card or chipset, you need to try it for youself . SDD5.2 work wit
: everything I have except EF2000.
:  But if the program isn't setup to use the vesa2.0 standard its not
: going to make much if any difference in speed.
:
: Doess GP2 support vesa2.0 ?
not according to the gp2 docs...

I have a stealth64 dram
Don't let anyone tell sdd5.2 does not work because it could be the

Doess GP2 support vesa2.0 ?
