ICR2 Demo and Vesa Drivers

I recently downloaded the ICR2 demo.  I went to setup and it detected
my video card:  ATI Mach 64 WinTurbo With 2MB mem.  Once I started the
game, though, it was like playing on a 386sx25....the screen blinked the
frames, they didnt flow..
Is this a common problem or is my computer just screwed up?

Rick Genter, any comments?

Just wondering,
Ryan Klein

BTW..The game ran well in Win95 and Dos without the driver, but
i just want to get the most out of the game that I can.

UniVBE seems to have a problem with the ATI Mach 64 (which is the same
video card that I have). We're looking into it...

Run the program uvconfig, and check the third option:
"Disable linear frame buffer"
That solved the problem for me. I have an ATU GFX Xpression.

I have the same video card, and the same problem.  When I use the
uniVBE driver supplied with the game, I get crappy frame rates.  When
I use uniVBE5.1a that I already had, the game runs fine.

Before you ask, I uninstalled my version before I installed the game
version, and vice versa when I ran my version.

I did try the game with no uniVBE drivers, and I didn't notice any
difference in the frame rates.  The same goes for NASCAR.  I'm
puzzled.  Again, any suggestions Mr. Genter?

Rick

Can you explain what the UniVBE is and what it does because I
installed it when asked by the demo and it works fine...I just dont
know anything about it.

Cheers...Craig

Good, don't let them  talk you into getting a different card (since
that's what I have also) until they get it fixed.  Now if they want to
"GIVE" you (and me) a better card, well. . .

Rick, two questions, if you don't mind...

1) The demo reports my video card as being an Oak with 256KB.  It's in fact a Matrox
Millenium with 2meg.  The game in SVGA is very zippy, so I'm not complaining, but could
I be missing out on even better performance?

2) You mention in another post that ICR2 ships with a coupon for an upgrade when the Win95
version ships.  A buddy of mine bought ICR2 today, and NO COUPON.  Comments?

Thanks...Neil

We ended up not putting a physical coupon in the box, but there are still
plans to offer DOS purchasers a nominal-fee-upgrade to the Windows 95
version when it is available.
