Improving F1 2000 performance?

Improving F1 2000 performance?

by James Campbel » Thu, 06 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I'm thinking about upgrading my computer to improve the performance of F1
2000 and the upcoming GP3 sim.  My current game system is a PackardBell PII
350Mhz, 128Mb, and Voodoo3 3000 AGP.  So far with F1 2000, I've been able to
tweak the graphics options with decent results, but I would like to do
better.  (Especially when GP3 gets here!)

If anyone has any suggestions what upgrade(s) would give me the best results
for $300 or less, I would much appreciate it :-)

Thanks.

Depending on your motherboard chipset you may already have that puppy maxed
out.

An SB Live sound card would buy you a few more fps. It's cheap, it sounds
great and takes a bit of load off the CPU.

BEst suggestion is wait until GP3 is out. Then there will be some serious
graphics cards from 3dfx and Nvida out. These might just make the difference
to the games!!

I have a very similar system to you.
Can you tell me what options in terms if graphics you have on in the game to
get a decent frame rate.

I have a similar system and considering a Celeron 533 or if the Cel 600 comes
out soon I might get that if its not too expensive. I think CPU speed is the
main problem in a race.

Well, I don't know if anyone else would think them "decent", but I've been
getting about 15 fps at the start of a 12 car race, and about 21 when
everyone starts spreading out.  (According to FRAPS).
Even with the low frame rates though the graphics appear to be smooth.

I have FF turned off and the sound quality set to low.  I attached my
graphics options from my player.plr file.

If anyone else is getting better results from a similar system please let us
all know.
