ps2 or dreamcast for racing

I have a decent PC for "sims", but I saw GT3 and I got a hankering for some
old fashioned-sit-on-the-couch-with-a-gamepad racing.  I like real cars,
realistic tracks, and smooth graphics.  I'm getting a little tired of the
yearly hardware updates and installing a new game that runs jerky on last
year's dream system.
GT3 looks great on PS2, but Dreamcast is dirt cheap now.  Which system would
I be happier with?

The PS2 is worth it just for GT3 alone, but there is also LeMans 24
Hours, which isn't too bad, and Lotus Challenge looks decent.  Here's a
list of all the games: http://ps2.ign.com/genre_lists/racing.html

I have actually been pricing used Dreamcast systems just to play Ferrari F
355 challenge and heres what I found. I can get a used Dreamcast a used
Madcatz wheel and a brand new copy of f355 for just over a hundred dollars
from Funcoland. I think I will treat myself when I get my next bonus check
from work. I will wait for the ps2 to become yesterdays news then buy one of
those also. Then who knows ,maybe an x-box too. !!!

I say go with the PS2 and get GT3.  You won't find a racing game as
complete as GT3 on Dreamcast and I wouldn't expect one to come out
anytime soon for it either.  All that tuning you can do in GT3 is
great, adds to the realism.

eventually I will get a p$2, but not for 300 dollar$. I am hearing lots of
good things about f355 and for 100 dollar$ I get the system the game and a
wheel. If I get p$2 and gt3 plus a wheel for it I am looking at close to 400
dollar$ and thats too much for me.

Vanishing Point on Dreamcast gives it a run for the money - graphics
are almost as good and it's certainly a lot more ***ive.  Between
F355 Challenge, Vanishing Point, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, V-Rally 2 etc,
etc you could probably have more fun and have a boatload of cash left
over for what you'd pay for a PS2 & GT3.  After all, it's just GT2
(yawn) with better graphics.

I'd say PS2. There are some very good Dreamcast driving games, but
nothing in GT3's leage. Other second-year PS2 titles (like MGS2) are
looking just as polished.

Of course if money is a factor, the Dreamcast is a nice cheap console.
Just don't expect it to last you that long, as game development has
all but ceased (other than Sega in-house efforts which will continue
for a little while).
