IGN has a preview of this title on

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Quote to note:

"When this game saw first light on the Dreamcast console in Japan, it
was not nearly as polished as it is today. There were unforgivable AI
anomalies that totally detracted from everything else this title had
to offer. There is something to be said for living in the United
States, since we do enjoy a profound sense of freedom, and every now
and again, we manage to receive much improved ports of overseas games.
"

If you've read my hands-on report from E3 where I spent a few hours
playing this one, you know that I had my concerns about this area.  I
hope that Sega has addressed them.  I'll be reviewing this title for
Digital Sportspage as soon as Sega sends it to me, but basically I
would recommend that people adopt a "wait and see" approach on this
one and not judge it either way.  The review of this title at
VideoGameSpot was not good, but then it wasn't really written by a
CART fan and it was of the Japanese imported version.  IGN is
obviously hinting at some serious improvements for the US release.
Whether or not they are enough to send CART starved PC owners to buy
Dreamcasts, I don't know, but I surely intend to find out and break
down the game in detail as soon as I get it!

Another thing to keep in mind is that there will be a demo of this game
included with the Dreamcast.  The demo disc also includes UbiSoft's Monaco
Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2.  Hopefully they've tuned up the physics of
this game as well.

I played it about a month ago and didn't care for it that much.

You played the import, then, right?  So you don't know what the
improvements are that IGN refers to in its preview. It's not
necessarily the same game.

We could really use a decent CART sim sometime soon -- hopefully the
Dreamcast title will be better than Microsoft's CART Precision Racing
effort.  Since the Dreamcast is brand-new, I imagine we'll never see this
title ported to the PC, but if it could manage to become the "Gran Turismo"
of console-based CART sims, that would be a nice compromise! <G>

I don't know if it was the import or not.  All I know is that I played it a
month ago.  So it probably was the import then, because it really sucked.

From everything I've heard, they'd have to do a LOT of work from the import
title to the US title to even come close to CPR.  And thats saying a lot.

Well, not accelerating when you have the gas pushed is always a problem.  Or
maybe the controller was worn out, hehe.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it doesn't sound like you did a
very fair eval of the game, and I'm guessing it was the import.  I
didn't experience ANY problem accelerating, unless I was off the
pavement and on the grass.

I did a fair eval. of the game.  It just wasn't for me.  I found it odd that I
could practically go around Portland full out most of the time.

Is it really called Flag to Flag? That's pretty funny!

From the greean flag to the yellow flag.... and over and over and over and
over.....

Were you in arcade mode?  Because I did Portland in sim mode and had
to brake.  If Art Axelrad is lurking I think he can confirm this as we
both were playing side-by-side at E3.  Now Arcade mode I could see
that happening.
