Agreed. While I am in the middle of a Madden 07 kick right now, I still
look forward to the new releases of tracks, cars, updates, etc. that
are offered for the PC. Being locked into a specific set of tracks
and/or cars (as in the console market) isn't for me. This is where
rFactor excels as a sim, customization.
I understand the attraction of consoles. KNOWING that as soon as you
pop in the game it will work, but there is still no guarantee that the
content is any more accurate than what it released daily for the PC.
I'll take the minor aggravation of an occasional tweak or edit in order
to get new stuff regularly.
As for the Big Box type stores, I gave up long ago trying to look for
racing sims there. Best Buy was the worst. They would check the titles
into stock, thus showing them as available online for in store pickup.
But once arriving there, there were none out. I even did the "order
online for in store pickup" option once. (For GTLegends). I go to the
CS counter and they tell me that it's not in stock yet. I show them the
order form and confirmation (which tells me that the order was
processed and picked by an employee) and they still don't believe me.
So I go to one of the PC's setup in the store, search for the product
and then ask a CSR to show me where the title is. Amazingly, they
actually had to LOOK for the game.
I just go to GoGamer.com and order from them. Honest "in stock"
postings, super fast shipping and prices that are a tick below the
local retail, offsetting a portion of the shipping and almost making it
a wash in some cases.
