If you don't want to spend some money on a wheel..
I would suggest a Joystick over a gamepad.... It's really at least a
minimum to get a Joystick, A game pad is like racing with a keyboard, just
more ergonomic for your fingers ;-)
There's plenty of variety for Joysticks. You might want to check out the
Microsoft Sidewinder series of joystick (they have a great range of price
and are good quality joysticks). You can also check out the Thrustmaster
line of Joysticks. They are mostly solid and reliable.
A gamepad will not add nothing.. but at least with a Joystick you have
analog functions for the wheel + gas/pedal depending on how many functions
you have with the Joystick (+ you can add pedals to it also.. it's a great
combo).
