Depression and racing sims/ gaming...

Hey guys,
This may be all mushy and personal, but I just thought I'd say
something after seeing a 'psychology and racing sms' heading.
I'd say that pcgames, and for me, racing simulations are a great cure
for the blues. I went through too many years with a cloud over my
head, and then one year I decided to just take a break for a second,
and enjoy the luxury of computer games.
Turns out this was a good idea. Where other attempts at breaking free
were always overshrouded by something, ICR2 and GP2 really came
through for me.
And it beats getting drunk to unwind, which is what most guys my age
are up to.
So,,,, in conclusion,,, racing rules, and I'm glad you guys appreciate
it too..
Oh I think I'm gonna cry.

ps: not to mention I think Dave Mansell's got some ways to unwind over
at his Skunk Racing site......////////

Makes sense to me! I've had similar experiences. Racing sims on my PC can be
a great escape!

I don't know, personally I think it can be both good and bad. I had an
***ion to online Quake and could play for up to 12 hours straight (about
3 hours a day usually). This definitely wasn't good for my weight-training
and my social life, although I built a Quake clan with about 15 members
called "Ernie killers" (After the Bud Grace cartoon "Ernie" ;-] ).

However, as a way of relaxing it's great.

heh!  You think online Quake 2 is relaxing?  My friend is now on his 4th
mouse after slamming previous mice against the wall and I am known also for
my mouse bashing tantrums!  (usually after being fragged by some BFG camping
lamer who loads up with 6 bfg shots and thinks he's great!!!!)

Good fun, but relaxing?... ummmmmmm!

For me its not the relaxing but the total concentration (and fun) that takes
you away from all your other problems. I also do some amateur racing and its
the same way except you cant press 'shift-R' when you make a mistake. Sim
racing lets me practice on tracks I race, try out tracks I  could not race
on, drive with the pros and get away with things I couldn't or wouldn't try
on real tracks. The early games like Night Driver or Pong took a lot of
concentration ,but these new games are so detailed that you feel like you
were actually in their world ,driving around Manaco or ducking behind a
doorway while shots come from an enemy in the next room.
