Wondering if there have been any "Historic" sims/games (based on racing
from a previous era) that could be added to my very short list:
[without making judgement on relative quality]

Grand Prix Legends
NASCAR Legends
Spirit of Speed 1937

A Finnish company called Bugbear will release a game called "Historic Rally
Trophy" next spring,although Im not sure if it will represent racing in the
historic era,or racing with historic cars in modern era

Grand Prix 2 with wide cars with slicks. Definately another era both
by content and software architecture :)

Parts of Need For Speed _Porsche Unleashed  model the older products of
Porsche . While not exactly historic since you only race against other
Porsches instead of a mixed field it is a fun game.

did monaco gp not have a retro race somewhere in it?
theres also NASCAR legends to add to the list

Slight correction or two:

Name has changed to Rally Trophy a while ago already, and the release is
stated as September 2001. :)
