previously had a MS Sidewinder 3D Pro attached to my old Soundblaster 16
game port, and it worked fine. I tried installing the drivers off the
CD and, they seem to think they installed, however the system cannot
detect the wheel. So I downloaded the "awheelsetup" program from the
website, and it seems to think it installs, then it fumbles around with
USB drivers for a while (I don't have USB) but, the system cannot detect
the wheel with it either.
Interestingly, using the Win95 add hardware applet will allow me to
select the wheel but then it says "windows did not finish copying the
files because the installation was cancelled." Something is strange
with the driver.
I reconnected my Sidewinder and it worked fine. So I know the game port
is working correctly. I tried it with both DirectX 6 and 7. After
installing DirectX 7, the system no longer shows the wheel as an option
using the awheelsetup driver. But it does show it as an option with the
CD-ROM driver. (Of course that driver does not work).
Has anyone encountered similar problems and is there a solution?
Thanks. :}
