Net play with firewalls

Anyone had any luck playing on the 'Net while coming
through a firewall? I assume you can add the port number
to your IP info when trying to connect to someone hosting
a game...If thats true the flexibility of the firewall would be
a key issue I would think.

Thanks

My racing buddy has a "firewall" on his home network. We've had no problems
hooking up.

With a true firewall, you'll need to configure it so it will let the right
packets trough while keeping out the unwanted packets. You do not state which
firewall you're using (or planning to use), and what games you want to play, so
I cannot give you any tips on configuration.

As a cable user, I have one dedicated PC that's permanently connected to the
net. I use WinRoute as on that machine (WinRoute has some firewall-like
functionality but really cannot be considered to be a firewall). It was easy
configuring WinRoute to enable playing GPL and hosting races on my ***
machine.
