Network Play Across the Net?

by Paul L. Finnemor » Sun, 28 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Is it possible to play multiplayer driving games across the Internet? I
have F1GP, NasCar, IndyCar and IndyCar II, all of which I like playing
against real (that is, human) opponents. However, I'm sick of
subsidising British Telecom with three hour phone calls to Newcastle.
Is there a way of setting up a remote link game across the Net, so that
I only have to dial as far as my ISP?

regards,

Paul.

Paul,

There is a program called Kali, that tricks your internet connection
into thinking you have a IPX network.  It works with all the games I
have, but I have YET to try it with any racing games.   As for Indycar
II or Nascar, I didn't think either supported IPX?  (I don't have
F1GP)
Anyway if your interested here is the site.  The lastest version is in
a file called Kalippp.zip  (click on the AXXIS INTERNET SERVICE link
to get to the FTP site)

Sorry gang...this one has been answered unfortunately quite a few times here.
Papyrus's Nascar does have network support, but it was officially unsuported
from Papyrus because it was just too incompatible with certain networks.
Besides to run Nascar you had to have Netbios loaded, which isnt supported by
Kali. Rick Genter himself has answered this one many times.
There is a way to play any game with modem/direct connect over the net
although i have never sucessfully tried it. There is a program that lets you
play directly connected thru a shell connection (damned if i cant remember the
name of it) by simulating a direct connect over the net. Anyone care to
remember the name of this proggie?

> AndyHi Andy,

I have a Nascar CD that came with the Matrox Millenium board and that =

version seems to support the Novell=B4s IPX protocol. I haven=B4t tried =

it though, so I don=B4t know if it will works with Kali at all.
The Nascar switch is -N:userid if I remember things right.

Nope....been there...done that....you DO have to have netbios loaded in order
for the game to connect correctly, but Kali does not simulate a netbios
network, and i have fooled with all of this alot with NO avail.
However, since replying to the original letter i did go out and grab IHHD and
installed it on my shell acct. BOTH ICR2 and NASCAR work over the internet as a
1 on 1 game just like a modem game. You do have to have a shell acct and then
find opponents to race. I have had ok luck in the IRC finding opponents in room
#descent....alot of IHHD'ers there.
IHHD can be found at ftp.cactus.org.
btw...anyone here care to challenge me over the net with IHHD with NASCAR
(v.1.2...1.4 too buggy for modems) or IRC2?
