Try Kahn and see if it works better.

S2: Net play via KALI report.

After about a week of lurking on KALI, I finally found someone to play
Screamer II with.  For the uninitiated, S2 is a rally-car game that
supports 4-player IPX.  Crashwise, it is unrealistic as you can smash
into anything and just bounce back into the action, but otherwise
(physics, gearchanges, graphics) it is a sim.  Something of a hybrid, I
guess.

We got it to work, but it was messy.  Best we could manage over a 28.8
link (p133 64meg/cyr166+ 32meg) was a low-res 256-color low-detail game
at about 1-3 fps.  It was vile.  My normal time on the England track is
about 3:45, this game it was 4:54.  Our pings were in the 400 range.

So to answer the question I posted last week, yes, SII *works* with
KALI, but not well enough to be worth playing.

I've got 20 bucks in my pocket burning to pay for whichever service
supports S2. :)

A friend and I tried Screamer2 on Kahn last night. We had good ping
times consistently less than 300ms. Game play was very much as Lars
described it: vile. Apparently, the game is sending a lot more than just
car positions with each packet.

Along the same lines, N2 is also less than perfect. Most of the time,
things are ok, but as the cars approach each other, the warping gets
unbearable. We are racing only two cars, no AI and latency is being
reported in the .13 - .16 range. Question: do the modem setup strings in
the Win95 dialer make any difference? Modem init strings in the NASCAR
games are critical for acceptable performance via modem play. Are there
optimum settings for connection to Kahn as well? Also, has anybody
determined what the best "Advanced Settings" in the Kahn Control Center
are?

At least LinksLS works good! FORE!!!

Patrick.
