Hmmm... I don't mind revving what the engine can pull, but the ergonomics of
the pedals and gearshift are such you have to make too big a movement for
the speed you have to perform it at.
Also, all the stick in the world won't help you jack if you can't tell how
much of it you are using at any given time.
Heh... while ago a guy named Brian Short announced here he was too tall to
fit a Caterham R500, which I thought was quite ironic too, but nobody picked
up on that it seems.
Anyhow, as a fellow owner of a sporty Nissan 3-door hatch (on of those real
life compromises you come to regret pretty soon after making them), I have
to disagree with both of you.
It's not too bad... once it takes its set in a corner it's quite progressive
and predictable, neigh forgiving. It's just vague and fairly unresponsive on
turn in/direction change. It's very hard to make an educated guess at how
aggressively a particular corner can be driven (compared to other cars I've
driven).
That said, it's not hard to get yourself out of trouble due to it's basic
understeering nature, so it's not too dangerous to drive it in a "banzai"
way (which, in a way, is very Japanese). It's just quite embarrassing to
ride out the "plough" and not very refined.
Drive a Lotus Elise or even a mark I Golf and get back to me.
