New FF Wheel Recommendation

New FF Wheel Recommendation

A spring in the pedals of my old Trusty Thrusty Formula T1 wheel finally bit
the dust last night, leaving me effectively wheel-less. Given the
wonderousness of GPL and the imminent arrival of GP3 (actually, it's really
only GPL I'm bothered about...) it also leaves me somewhat pissed-off.

I figured that this is probably a Good Thing, as it means I now have a good
reason to risk divorce and splash out on a FF wheel. Just wondered what
those GPL ***s that employ such devices figured would be a good move. I
have a Logitech Wingman Force joystick and I've been extremely impressed
with the quality and the FF implementation, so I'm tending towards a LWFF,
but I've heard the pedals are dreadful. This is not a Good Thing.

What else should I be considering? I'd also like to go with USB if possible,
and I don't believe the LWFF is avaialble in USB, right? All contributions
gratefully accepted.

The LWFF is available in USB, and I don't find the pedals to be as bad as
some say (although I do have the 2nd version which came out--- I believe
there's a 3rd out now).  True, they're not as good as the CH rudder pedals I
used to use, but they're alright.

YMMV

Then you'll love the Wing Man Formula Force, or a newer model if there is
one.

I have the LWFF and , true, the pedals are'nt the greatest ( I use my trusty
old T2 pedals ) but the wheel is fantastic.  It is the wheel that requires
the least amount of CPU time, according to Alison and the likes.

Robert

PS: Great FF in GPL with it :)

Cant find a dealer in the UK who sells the Act Labs controller.
Anyone know if there is one?

Thanks to all for the advice.

rrevved, I presume you use the ACT Labs wheel? If so, do you use it with GPL
and could you elaborate on the quality/FF implementation with GPL? Do you
use the paddles or the separate shifter? How about the pedals? I found the
TM pedals pretty good for graduated braking and I even managed a bit of
heel-and-toeing after a couple of months with GPL.

I think you will LOVE the Logi!  I have had mine for about 18 months,
and have had NO problems, even with pretty regular  use (almost daily
use, really).  It hasn't been slammed around and abused, and therefore
looks and performs as new.  (It must be said that I took the first one
back because of  a "notchy" incremental feel; Best Buy exchanged with
no problem.  It DOES have some wobbly slop (I feel it has gotten worse,
as would be expected)  but it does not take away from my enjoyment of
it.  The forces are not huge, and the pedals not fabulous, but I think
are not the problem some have made them out to be.  The feedback about
Logi tech support on the NG has been very enegative, but thus far I
have not needed them.  Good luck in your choice!   Glen Priest

By the way, Alison made a pretty exhaustive comparison  on her site
involving the Logi, Act Labs and MS.  Her choice, by a large margin,
was the Logi  and she explains why in a very persuasive and careful
way!  She ain't wrong very often, if ever!

SFAICT v.2 has a pre***ly red box - I believe v.1 was mostly
white - and the 'packaged' game is SCGT where v.1 had Ubi's F1
sim.

FWIW I bought the Logi wheel this afternoon. Very happy with it
so far - even the pedals, which are a lot better than I'd been
led to believe. They are perhaps a little light compared with
some, but that will at least encourage me to develop a less
lead-footed driving style...  ^_^
