GP3 - Freeze Prob

Well, Microprose is about to lose one of their loyal customers to an
unmentioned major competitor unless I can resolve this problem.

I just moved to a new system:
AMD Duron 800, 128 Mg RAM, lots of HD space (not overclocked)
MSI K7T Pro MB
Creative Labs PCI 512 sound card
Voodoo 4 AGP (32mg) video card

Just the system to run gp3 right?  Wrong!  The game will load and let me run
for a random amount of time (in practice/quick race/race) - maybe I play for
10 seconds or maybe I play for 5 minutes.  The net result is always a screen
freeze with the sound looping thru the last half-second of play.  The only
way to escape is to reboot the system.

I have updated to the latest drivers for DirectX, sound card, video card,
and motherboard (ViaTech's AGP, Bus, and IRQ router drivers).  I have also
updated to the official GP3 patch.  And have tweaked the video, directx, and
sound card settings so much I cant's tweak no more.

The result is always the same.  Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.
