New 1.4+CPU GP3/GPL probs?

by Kendt Eklu » Mon, 25 Jun 2001 12:12:54

Just got my 1.4 Tbird, running it slightly overclocked (1466 I think).

Games just scream on this system - love how the V5 scales with
processor speed!

GPL was of course the first test.  Doesn't look like I'm up to where I
need the speed patch - lap times are OK, but the FPS counter is hosed.
Is this normal?  Is it fixed in the speed patch?  Does the speed patch
break anything like CarSound?

GP3 - with the GPXPatch - appears a little strange.  First the PO went
up when I ran it, then it ran faster the next time, but the GPXPatch
stopped working.  Anyone seen strange behavior with GP3/GPXPatch on
really fast machines?

Thanks for any info!

Well, I've got myself a 1ghz tbird, oc'ed and stable at 1.4 ghz. No
probs in gpl, fps are fine. Only problems I've found so far are at
Solitude in high res. Major texture corruption, crazy stuff appears,
racing groove disappears...This is only at 1280 and 1600 res. Runs
fine and normal at 1024. Anyone else found this?

GP3 runs fine for me with the gpx patch (after some setup teething
probs) v2.21 I think.

New 1.4+CPU GP3/GPL probs?

you didn't say which video card you  have but I'd be guessing you are
maxing out the memory throughput your card can pass information through.
The high rez problems are the clue...if it works fine at lower resoulutions,
then drivers aren't the problem, but rather a limitation in the
hardware...thats not a bad thing, it's just the upper edge of where you can
go.

I ran GPL in 1600x1200 2x FSAA last night, sweet!

New 1.4+CPU GP3/GPL probs?

by Andi Col » Tue, 26 Jun 2001 05:06:34

My framerate counter in GPL shows about 9 (yes nine!). However that is
definitely not right as the game is sooo smooooth. I actually think it's
easier to drive! I have the CPU patch installed as I have one of those
1.7Ghz P4 things. That is supported on an Intel Mobo with 256MB of PC800
memory and an Elsa Gladiac 920. So far I have not coma across any problems
with any games. GPL is the only one I have had patch, Q3A, SCGT and Gunship
all run fine.

Andi.

That piece of ***;)?  Feel free to laugh at me when WSC is
released...

GPxpatch appears to be working now - I just have to reboot before I
can run it again after exiting GP3.

On a v3 3000 in Glide. Yeah, runs pretty well most of the time, but I
found this problem ONLY at Solitude, so I thought maybe it was a combo
of high res plus 3rd party textures, etc.

Not a big deal, I just run Solitude at 1024 instead, just wondered if
this was a known bug or something.

Actually have just found I have the same problem - gpxpatch works
fine, but if I exit then restart gp3, I have standard tracks, etc.
which really sucks! Anyone else with this prob, any solutions (other
than rebooting!)
