Many consider it to _still_ be the best in it's class of sim.
As I do.
GP2 is a work of art given the time frame it was released.

This is true, if you had a Pentium 500 at the time, but no one did :(
GP2 was a disaster in some ways.
The graphics of the screenshots were cool, but the graphics of the game at a
playable framerate were very bad!
So is this game good or bad?
I want to race, not look at screenshots....
I still play GP2; it's better than anything else in it's class. Way better
than MGPRS2, Official F1 Racing and F1RS. GP3 as 3DFX patch would bee fine.
Not great, but fine by me. I rather think GP3 will include Saftey Cars, Blue
and Red flags and similar enhancements which haven't yet been achieved in
anything else, 'cept GPL!
Maybe I was just lucky...

I agree wholeheartedly. Although I doubt we'll see GP3 before next year I'll
glady buy It In Dec. If available. Even in It's Beta state It would be head
and shoulders above any other current F1 sim.
Nothing wrong with updates & patches, hopefully the first one would address
multiplay.

You turn down the graphics to get a good framerate. GP2 is still the best
F1 sim and got better each time I upgraded my computer. I'll admit with a
slow computer it is not graphically impressive but I look more at the
physics/playability of the game than graphics.

Me too. I can forgive some bugs since experienced 1000 bugs with Faclon4!
;^)
Racing sim is smaller world simulation than flight sim, so there should be
less bugs.

Uh... call me crazed but I thought GP2 wasn't patched because it
wasn't bugged. (It's a strange world when people call it customer
support to sell ***and fix it later).

Perhaps Microprose didn't release any patches, etc, because it didn't
need any? Radical I know, but hey, think about it, just for a
second......
I also have GP2 installed on *both* my home pc's, and I have most of the
decent patches, editors, etc installed, and the excellent GP3lap which
enables GP2 over a LAN, great stuff! All the patches, editors, etc, do
is to enhance the graphics, to enable the cars performance to be
tweaked, etc.
They do not *FIX* anything? cos nothing needed fixing? Pretty rare thing
that, a bug free program. Think about it.
