GPL Patch Question

If you've made any changes to the gpl.exe (installing the Honda/Cooper
patch for example) you'll need to restore the original off of your GPL
CD before applying the patch.

Are you serious?  It's hard to imagine anyone who hasn't added a graphics
patch or a car set or SOMETHING?

Hi,

Just as a matter of interest; will we have to reinstall GPL (those of us who
have taken advantage of those excellent patches and tweaks out there on the
'Net) to install *the* patch?  Will my modified season with changes 3do,
adverts textures, drivers, sounds and cars still be available to me after
patching?

Thanks,

Matthew.

Okay give us another year to test every hack that everyone has made for GPL
in all language versions and then we will release the  patch. <G>

GPL Patch Question

by Ross MacGrego » Thu, 10 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Its easy to do, just back up all the yellow folders in your GPL DIR, or do
as I do use GPL season. As for the install, Ill just do a clean install,
patch GPL, and will be testing for however long it takes to make sure there
arent any "NEW" bugs, and see how GPL is acting online etc. Once all seems
ok, and after some expected tweaking, Ill just repatch it with GPLSeason,
that is assuming that GPL season will work with  the updated version, or be
upgraded itself.

Thanks Eric,  I was just interested as I know precious little about
programming.  I am presuming that there as I'd have thought all I need to do
is reapply all the tweaks after initialling the official patch.

Well maybe not hard to imagine, but a lot of people have beeen trying to
make GPL even more authentic over the passed months. It is a very valid
question that needs to be answered.  If you haven't taken advantage of these
amazing graphic add-ons then you are still racing at less than full
'throttle', imho

And should all of the patch makers start re-programming their patches so

If they modified files that _we_ modified for the patch, then, yes,
they will need to rework those files.  You don't really expect anything
different, do you?

As a heads up, here's a list of the files to be included with the
patch.  Of particular interest would be gpl.exe, driver.ini,

I think you'll find that most texture upgrades and patches involve
extra files in some subdirectories, instead of the GPL.exe file.
Ofcourse that file needs to be replaced, but probably every other
patch will still work.

GPL Patch Question

Thanks again for being so considerate.  Of course, no one would expect old
patches to work, but you have just given anyone who cares the advanced
notice to do their homework.  It looks like all the wonderful sound and
graphic changes should be able to remain as-is, but things like the
Coventry-Cooper and Murasama-Honda tweaks will need to be recreated.

By the way, thank you also for designing GPL to allow for the easy insertion
of substitute sounds and graphics.  This kind of open-concept designing does
not detract in any way from protecting your source code, but allows
dedicated fans to make an already superior product even more "immersive" (I
don't think that's really a word, but you now what I mean) and impressive.
Some of the new sounds do it for me!!!.

Marc.

The nurburg.ini change moves your pit board guy past Sudkehre (to the
straight parallel with the front straight).  This gives him time to put
your current lap time onto your pit board.

The monza.ini (and .lp changes) fix the egregious 'ram you up the rear
in the braking zone for Parabolica' problem.
