Rumor was(from a very reputable source on the newsgroup) Frankenheimer was
talking about adding extra material together for a DVD release. He didn't live
long enough... :-(

Just the other day, Warner Bros. had a chat on the Home Theater Forum. There
were lists of titles that are coming out in the next couple years, some that
are being worked on, and some that there are not plans for. Grand Prix was on
none of these lists. So I guess nobody asked. So it is likely there will be
no release this year.

If the "making of" dvd has anything to do with, or is the program they
intertwined with 'Grand Prix' when they showed it on 'Speedvision" :( a few
years ago, it was quite interesting. It showed how they modified cars to
show the pedal/footwork shots, and, uh, a lot more. Interviews with
Frankenheimer, Garner, etc. Anyway, I would like to see that again. But, I
would like to see "Grand Prix" on dvd, more importantly. I bet 'Driven' is
out on dvd, and that's a real shame.

Matt picked up a copy of "The making of Grand Prix" at the Autosport show a
few months ago, but I never got around to asking him about it's quality..
Anyway just goes to show that the footage is obviously there...

Seeing that Le Mans was released last year - Grand Prix 'cant be far
behind..

Grand Prix is an MGM release. Does Warner own the right's to MGM too?

Yes it does... - dosn't it?... Turner Classic Movies show/own old MGM
classics - and they are own/part of the Time Warner / Turner empire I
think...

The reviews at Amazon savage the documentary-apparently it is full
of fluff pieces with very little substantive content...

I actually just ordered the VHS version (got tired of waiting) as well
the DVD of Le Mans (and Cannonball! by Brock Yates).

A long time ago Turner bought a bunch of classic MGM titles. Grand Prix was
one of them.
