F1 2001 FF Profiles

by Pat Dotso » Sun, 25 Nov 2001 15:56:27

I have three different ff profiles for F1 2001.  Each one
is for a different FF wheel.  I've done profiles for the
Logitech, ACT Labs, and Microsoft wheels.

The stock FF parameters have IMO the grip level set way
too high.  With my settings, I get a much better feel
for the overall balance of the car.  The settings yeild
roughly the same feel on each brand of wheel.

I am going to follow up with a post containing the settings
for each wheel.  Just cut and paste into the relevant
section of the <player>.plr file.

I can't guarantee they will work for you.  Use at your
own risk.

Please let me know if these files work better for you!

F1 2001 FF Profiles

by Pat Dotso » Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:12:24

Good luck with these!  They give more of a GPL FF feel
to F1 2001, only these are a little bit better than
GPL FF I think. :)

With the grip weight set as high as the stock settings,
steering forces are downright unrealistic.  The steering
force falls off so quickly that I can't control the car
very well.  Well, let me back up and say that, having
driven with a grip weight of 1.0, I CAN control the car
with high grip weight, and do almost the same lap times,
but it's very twitchy.  These profiles allow for much
more consistency.

I'll be at a kart race tomorrow, but will be back
in the evening to see if anyone has problems or
feedback on these.

F1 2001 FF Profiles

I've already cusomized my MS FFB wheel (usb) using the settings from the
advanced Doc. Feels great. ISI wasn't BS'ing when they said they were going
to do the FFB right. Thx ISI/EA, this is the best implementation of FFB
ever, including GPL. Just wanted to ask you which MS wheel you are using
because the - setting is all wrong for my MS FFB wheel. I have to use the
opposite to get the right effects. The advanced Doc has the MS wheel using -
too. Must be the older gameport version or the FF2 wheel maybe.

FFB_Steer_Force_Input_Max=(-6800.000000)     // Recommended: 7000 (-7000
if controller pulls in the wrong direction).

Thanks so much, Pat!

Do you have any recommendation as to the "steering sensitivity" (presumably
linearity), X-axis sensitivity, and/or steering ratio for these wheels?
I've tried everything from 12:1 to 15:1 with a TM/Guillemont FF wheel, and
still can barely hold it on the road in a straight line.  I can't be that
bad....

Stephen,

Please let us all know if you come up with good FFB parameters and/or
in-game linearity, sensitivity, etc. settings.  I have the same wheel and
suffer the same issue.  I can tell the potential is there for it to be
great, but don't have the time to invest right now in endless fiddling (like
I did for GPL).

F1 2001 post-patch is looking pretty good!!

Like I pointed out in previous posts, the steering sensivity concept
in F1 2001 is out of this world. Set it to 50 % for full linear
steering ( V shape). Lower than 50 % means U shape response, and over
50 % means a upside down U shape response (I refuse to use the word
sensivity since it's one of those words that can mean several things and
has no mathematical value)

Did you set FF in game to negative 100?  This may be the same thing as
setting all the individual values to negative, except is saves time.  ;0)

Send me a wheel and I'll do one! :)

Actually, you should be able to tune my settings to
any wheel by adjusting the FFB steer force input
max value.

I have an more in-depth method for determining
what that setting should be for an individual
wheel that I can post later.
