VROC settings

by Joel Willstei » Fri, 05 Mar 1999 04:00:00

As per the technical section,I set up a separate DUN to use while
racing online at VROC. It's slow as hell, and waiting for a site to load
takes forever. But the disconnects are a lot less. Then I started having
troubles getting disconnected just about every race. I had changed
access phone numbers for my ISP,when I switched back, the disconnects
fell off to their old levels. These are both local calls, different
towns,and both V.90 56.6 connections. I really can't figure this out.

Another problem I've run into is with the separate DUNs, transmit
and receive buffer settings. I set them to 1 click from the left. Then
when I check the buffer settings in my regular DUN,is was moved as well.
I then reset them using the mouse. I then went back and checked the VROC
DUN settings, and they moved back to the default settings. No other
settings move in one DUN when you change something in the other DUN
except the Buffer settings. How do I keep each setting from changing
when I reset the other DUN?

    Please reply off/on list.

VROC settings

Joel,

I had the same problem.  What I did was to place an init. string in the
"extra settings"(?) field of the Dial up Networking. My setting were for the
Boca Research 33.6 internal...

at&f%c0&k0s37=115200

at&f= set back to defaults.
%c0= (zero not the letter o) Do not connect using error control.
&k0= (zero not the letter o) Do not use flow control.
s37=115200= connect at 115200.

Plus, I unchecked the "use error control check box and checked the "use flow
control, Hardware flow control check box and radio box. In the buffers I set
them both to the second from the left.  I used that setting for both the
TEN/NROS and for browsing.  It was quite fast for both.

Check with your modem manual for the correct settings(string).

This helped me out with the TEN/NROS.  The 33.6 gave me massive warping for
GPL though.

Hope that helps,
Mike Barlow

Connect by V.34 protocol (<=33.6k).  You'll get fewer errors and
discos, and the slower speed is fine for joining races.  Check your
modem manual for the proper command.

The Tx/Rx buffers are a separate setting (not connected to a
particular DUN, but rather the serial port itself).  I've got mine set
as per VROC recommendations and don't have any trouble surfing (V.90,
56k).

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
