Can't get XP to detect Momo Racing Wheel

by FRiC » Fri, 09 Jan 2004 01:38:30

Hello all, I've just gotten a Logitech Momo Racing wheel, but when
plugging in the wheel the LED on the wheel blinks a few times, and if
the wheel isn't centered it will center, then the LED goes out, and
XP's device manager just shows an USB Unknown Device. I also can't
manually change the driver for the unknown device.

The wheel itself is fine since I've tested it on two other computers
with different versions of Windows. It also doesn't appear to be
hardware problem with the computer, since I also have Linux on the
computer, and if I boot into Linux and plug in the wheel, the LED
stays lit.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest Logitech drivers?

You are suppose to install the Wingman software THEN connect the wheel. Did
you do it that way?

usb 2.0 from device mgr and reboot and lo and behold xp found everything and
it all worked again, you might give that a try.

I did, as mentioned in my original post, the wheel works perfectly on
two other systems. I've also tried both the driver that came with the
wheel, and the one downloaded off the website.

Time to reinstall Windows XP I guess.

Thanks for the replies!

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

YAY!

This fixed it, I had to delete both the USB 2.0 root hub device and
USB 1.1 root hub that the Momo wheel is plugged into. Upon rebooting
it worked.

Time to do some driving, thanks a million!

(Why isn't this in a FAQ somewhere?)

Sounds like a bad driver install.  Have you tried the following (exactly)?

- disconnect MOMO
- uninstall driver
- reboot
- run driver install
- connect MOMO when prompted
