Has anyone figured out a way to change the start your engines wav?
I have one I used in earlier versions that just I love, and miss hearing it.

Any help, thanks

N2003 sound files question

Tim,

Here is a copy of the readme file from the Jimmy Johnson spotter soundpack.
I don't remember where I got it, but it has new GSYE sound files.  There is
an email listed in the readme.txt below for an individual that can answer
your question.

Glen Pittman

==========================================
The "Johnson Pack" for NASCAR Racing 2003

04/30/03 [ver 1.05]
==========================================

The files included in this zip will substitute the default Gentelmen Start
Your
Engines command that came with the game.  They simply add several pep talks
by crew chief Chad Knaus and spotter Chris Osborne to the existing GSYE
files.

Also included is the GSYE command given by John Travolta, sampled by
Minted Llama.  Bleet, bleet.  [www.teamslm.com]

Installation
============
Unzip the files into your Nascar2003\sound folder.  That's all there
is to it.

Explanation for the unknowing
=============================
The 12 Gentlemen Start Your Engines commands are zipped up in the sound.dat
file in .ogg format.  Whenever your race starts, it will search in that
.dat file and play one of those gsye.ogg files.  However, if there
are individual sound files in the \sound folder with the same name, it will
play those files instead, basically trumping the corresponding file in the
.dat file.

Note: The sound.dat file is in no way changed, and the Johnson Pack
files do NOT overwrite anything in the sound.dat file.  They simply
substitute for some of the files.

Uninstallation
==============
If you wish to stop using the "Johnson Pack," simply delete or move
the .ogg and .wav files from your nascar2003\sound folder, and
the original audio files will return in the game.  Be extra careful
that you DON'T delete your sound.dat file!

Distribution
============
You may freely distribute this file to anyone, or any website.
I only ask that you keep the .zip file intact, and give proper
credit if it's posted on a website.

Bugs, Comments, Suggestions
===========================
If you run into any problems, or have any comments or suggestions,
feel free to Email me.

Hey guys, I found a converter and have a gsye.wav that I'd like to convert
as well, anyone know what sample rate and bitrate I should be using? And it
should go into the Sounds folder, correct? I've tried a few different
conversions but have yet to hear the one I want played at the start of a
race.....If I follow the directions above, if I have my own gyse.ogg in the
sounds folder it should override the gsye's included with the game......

I used the default rate, I forget what it was, but it worked okay.

But, in N2003 there are 13 gsey's.  They are ...
gsye.ogg, gsye.wav (default)
gsye1.ogg ... gsye.12.ogg

All go in sound folder.

This would make one sound play for all tracks.

Hey Tim, that worked! Thanks a lot, I can now hear my lovely daughter giving
the command instead of some of the (funny) Bozo's Papy had in there.
I did the same thing, one .ogg for all 13 sounds......
Ed
Maybe when I get bored some day soon I'll convert the sound from WinVROC
