Asus A7V8X N2003 Sound problems

I have the above mentioned ASUS mobo, which comes with software called
"Sound Man". The problem is that my machine always defaults to a horrible
"Quarry" sound setting (heavy on reverb and chorus). Even if I don't load
the Asus software at startup. Seems to happen in windows in general. I can
also load the program, and turn the sound effects to "none", but when I fire
up n2003 the dreaded sound is back. Any ideas? There is no mention of the
problem at the Asus site...

Specs:
Asus A7V8x mobo
AMD XP 2400+
DX9
Win XP

All drivers/software updated...

Or do I need to get an Audigy player? :)

Same MB, cept with W98SE and 2700

Since I usually run with headphones, I figured onboard sound system would be
plenty for NR2003, but I was wrong. Most of the sounds were "okay" but the
engines at full throttle sounded like a 2-stroke engine on a weedeater.
Ugh... Put in a SB Live card for the headphones and everything is now
sounding just fine.

Best of luck.

I have the same motherboard and processor, run both WIN-ME & WIN-XP and have
no sound problems with any games. Nascar 2003 runs and sounds great. Try
turning off 3D sound in Nascar 2003.

Yup, I have 3D sound off. This has all happened after a mobo/CPU upgrade - I
used to run an old Live Value card which sounded amazing compared to this :/

:/

The onboard sound chip on that card sucks Matt.  You'd be much better off
using your old SB Live card (both in terms of performance and quality..)
Just remember to disable the onboard soundchip in the bios.. :o)

Had you bought the 'DeLuxe' version of the mobo on the otherhand...

Time to get a new soundcard anyway, the old SB has been donated to another
PC build :)
