When I select 3d sound I hear the spotter only out of one side.  Is this
normal?  Any way to change it?

I should be normal...after all, the spotter doesn't stand in two places
on either side of the track does he?  sorry...that wasn't very helpful...my
apologies.
try changing the # of sounds heard in the options.

I thought 3d sound was considered a no-no, it being a frame-rate killer.

It all depends on your sound card. If you have one of those ***Live cards
then yeah it is. I run both a Philips AE and a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with
no problems.

Really?  I didn't know that...

Well, since you are hearing him through your headphones, not from him
shouting from on top of the stands down past all the noise of your car and
the other 42...

Do NASCAR guys wear a single earpiece or do they get their instructions in
stereo?

Ah, cool.  I haven't had to bear the effects of a Creative Labs sound card
for several years :)

I run an Audigy 2, and get no noticeable frame rate hit with 3d sound.

Same here. If you need 3dsound and EAX, the A2 is the card to have. And it
sounds better than the A7N8X Dlx onboard sound, and gives me no online
crackles (unlike the onboard chip).

I broke my "crack"ling habit when N4 came out with the AE card. Life has
been good since.

I solved ALL of my sound problems (PCI bandwidth theft, crackling noises,
conflicts, hard-to-find updates, etc...) about 2 years ago when I switched
to Turtle Beach Santa Cruz cards :)

Sound is something I don't have to even think about any more.  It's just
'there' like it's supposed to be.

So you've said about a 1000 fn times for both Creative and ATI products.
The Audigy2 and the 9700Pro are both excellent products and I wouldn't
hesitate to recommend either to anyone.

You are really doing yourself and the ones that may listen to your advice a
disservice by continually knocking great products.  Things can change Larry,
really they can!
