Reactor Problem help!!

by Tom Hanse » Tue, 24 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I have tried installing a reactor in a SuperMicro 55CMS motherboard with a
P200 process and get an error (unable to load microcode) when running
DMATEST.  I have tried several bios's and changing every bios option
imaginable.  I have also tried running dmadiag first.  Using it in non-dma
mode is unacceptably slow - makes my Stealth card look like is on steroids.
Perhaps this motherboard just will not run the Reactor in DMA mode - it is
a late 1994 design.

Couple of questions :

1.  Has anyone made the Reactor work in this motherboard - and how ?

2. Motherboards are cheap these days - a lot less the 200 mhz cpu.  What
Pentium motherboards are people using with the Reactor in dma mode and
seeing super frame rates?  I currently get near 30 fps at Dover in N2
drawing all cars ahead, 3 behind, and turning on car textures, fence,
infield vehicles and skips using my Stealth card.  Not too bad - but I
would like to turn on the light poles at C***te and get the thing
running at 30fps at Talladega on the start with all 38 cars drawn ahead.
and me at the back.

Thanks for the help.  /THansen

If you opt for a mboard replacement... in the flight sim forum on
compuserve we've been traking mboards for dma 3d reasons.  So far, the
First International Computer PT2200 mboard in my machine has the record,
at 109MB/sec. with a lowly P100.  It is P200, P55C ready. BTW - I get
30fps in n2 routinely.
