To Eric Busch: Help Running older INDY2 and info on GP2 with REACTOR

Eric or anyone,

I have used the REACTOR board now for several days and the graphics
is outstanding. Have a couple of questions.

Original INDY2: Does anyone get the original INDY2(ver1.0) to display
its graphics correctly on the screen? I just get a four inch White bar
up at the top of the screen. I only need this older verion to run
league races with IVGA using RACE96. NASCAR works fine version 1.21.
I would much rather run on the new 3D version myself.

GP2 question/info: I have noticed with GP2 that if you go into graphics
menu and set up different details that the frame rate is much lower
with the REACTOR. Where it used to be estamated 18, it is now down to
10 or 11. Are others noticing this?

The GP2 game works great though. I set frame rate to 16 when estamated
says 10 and I get an occupancy on majority of tracks way under 100%.
Average is around 70-80% with more detail turned on.  Its just strange
to see the estimate to be way down on my Pentium 150. All the graphics
are somewhat more 3D looking and are much clearer to read now in SVGA.

Nothing seems to help Monoco though. That is one graphics entensive
track. Occupancy is way over 150% in most areas with same detail on as
other tracks.

Thanks for any info,

Dave Thayer

The only copy of ICR2 that I have is the one that came bundled with the
Reactor, so I can't be of much help here.  I really have no idea why the
older version wouldn't work though because, like you said, Nascar works
fine in both VGA and SVGA.  Have you tried talking with some at
Sierra/Papyrus about it?

BTW, What's all this stuff about estimated framerates, setting the
framerate, and processor occupancy with GP2?  I've had a few people asking
me how a Reactor will effect their GP2 performance, but I have no idea how
these figures relate to gameplay.  Do you tell it what framerate you want
at let the game manage the detail levels to maintain the desired rate sort
of like using the AUTO graphics feature in Nascar/Indycar?  Can someone
please enlighten me?

I had the same problem with the original INDY2. Here is what I did to
correct it. The original Indy 2 installed a Univibe driver at setup
that the Reactor does not need, so from the ICR2 directory type SETUP
and select the option UNINSTALL UNIVIBE DRIVER. Save changes and try
running ICR2 again. This worked for me. Now if I could only get my
Reactor to display more than 16 colors at 640x480 in Win95 I'd be set,
but that's another story. ICR2 - 3D alone is worth the $200.00 to me.
Bring on Nascar 2.
