GPL problems with Matrox G400 ?

by Lars » Tue, 13 Feb 2001 06:47:16

I have some troubles using GPL with my Matrox G400 card. The problem is as
follows. After I downloaded & installed drivers from the official Matrox.com
site - the menu system just becomes garbled. I can see some of text and try
to start the game (despite the garbled menu) If I do this, I very often get
locked, and I have to restart the machine with a forced swith of (Doesn't
respond to ctrl alt del) There is also sometimes I get to play. But when I
am trying to exit the game to windows after - I also get a total lock (have
to use a "forced restart" also then)
(I run the 1.2.0.1 patched version on Win 98)

Does anyone know why, or have some similar experience ?

Does anyone know how to solve this problem ?

Is there a fix patch for this ?

Say Hey,

I use a G400 also It 's slow compared to the GeForce cards, but it renders a
beautiful screen. Look for conflicts with your sound card.
On my system, Abit BX6r2, SBLive, I had to assign IRQ 10, install the sound
card in Slot 3 and disable SB16 Emulation. For Drivers use the 5.55 set,
they're faster than the later releases.

I'm also using a G400 card, and mine works fine.  Of course, you
downloaded the D3D driver from papy and you're using it, right?  Otherwise
you won't be able to have the racing groove or any 3D acceleration.

Initially, I had some weird screen garbling and random system crashes.
This turned out not to be the fault of the video card, but was rather
a problem with the drivers for my motherboard (Asus A7V).  You don't
mention what MB you have, but you might check the manufacturer's website
and see if they have updated drivers for it, whatever it is.

Yes - no problems with a G400, mine also works excellently. Any
problems I have are driver related - new one needed (GPL handicap
c.180).
